how I show my hard disk icon on the desktop
MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13
Finder Preferences > General. Or you could just show it in Finder Sidebar: Finder Preferences > Sidebar.

Does it show in System Report?
Does it show in Disk Utility?
Open Activity Monitor in Utilities, View>All Processes, is fsck running?
I tried that. I disconnected the external hard drive and when I plug it back in, it's not showing in the Finder window
