My iPad auto updated to iOS 15.5 and now I’m no longer able to draw by hand in the notes app. I can do the scribble feature but I prefer to do some notes by hand only - is this a new notes update, or is there some setting I can change to be able to freehand?

With your Notes App open - and the drawing tools visible - tap the ellipsis (three dots) icon - the set Draw with Finger to ON:

To draw with your finger as well as your Pencil, you need to verify (and change if necessary) just one setting:
Settings > Apple Pencil > Only Draw With Apple Pencil - set to OFF
When I turn off Only Draw With Apple Pencil, whatever I draw is still converted into type by the Scribble function.
To be clear - I do NOT want the iPad to convert whatever I draw (either by Apple Pencil or by finger) into type.
To also disable the Scribble function:
Settings > Apple Pencil > Scribble - set to OFF
Hi there - I've tried disabling Scribble as well, which doesn't work as my Apple Pencil will only scroll.
