How to fix Self Assigned IP when using ethernet Monterey 12.4?

This looks like an old problem, but it's suddenly popped up on my iMac (27 inch, 2019), I think since I upgraded my Monterey system to 12.4. Previously I didn't have problems on this connection, going back to Big Sur and earlier on a MacBook Pro, nor on earlier versions of Monterey on this iMac.

I have wifi and Ethernet, but I prefer the Ethernet for my Mac because it's really fast. Now I can't get the internet via Ethernet because it's "self assigned IP. I have tried a lot of the solutions advised for early versions of MacOS but none have helped so far. I have rebooted my router, restarted my Mac, removed some configuration files, tinkered with Network Settings etc. But no luck so far. The wifi (from the same router) is behaving perfectly.

What can I do?

I have the same problem on a MacBook Pro (using Zen in the UK) and tried (unsuccessfully) the recommendations from ku4hx except for the Firewall recommendation because /Macintosh HD/Library/Preferences/ does not exist in Monterey 12.4.

When my MBP is connected to a different Ethernet switch the 'self-assigned IP address' disappears and I have a working Internet connection. So I'm inclined to agree that it's a router/switch problem. WiFi is working for both connections.

Thanks for the reference, but I have already read that article and have tried all the options except the firewall so far. Nothing doing, sadly.

I just did an experiment whose result surprised me. I disconnected the Ethernet cable from my iMac and plugged it in to my older MacBook Pro running Big Sur - this always used to work, but today I got the same result "self assigned". From which I conclude it was NOT the Monterey update that was the problem, but instead some issue with my router, or just conceivably the Powerline connection that's carrying the Ethernet signal from the router to the computer. So, back to the drawing board. I have already rebooted the router - I will see what other options I have (this is Sky in the UK). Still looking for help on this one, though sadly I only have a few hours before switching locations.
