mouse and keyboard

I unlinked my mouse and keyboard from my iMac and now I can't get them to link back and somehow ended up in recovery mode. It gets to the point that ask me to reset password or next option, but I have no way to respond with no mouse or keyboard....what do I do

iMac 27″, macOS 12.4

The following will require any USB keyboard and mouse. If you don’t have them, borrow or buy them, they are inexpensive!

  1. Connect the USB keyboard and mouse to the computer.
  2. Open System Preferences – Bluetooth
  3. Un-pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.
  4. Turn off Bluetooth
  5. Restart the computer in Safe Mode per the directions in How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
  6. Restart the computer normally.
  7. Open System Preferences – Bluetooth
  8. Turn on Bluetooth
  9. Re-Pair the wireless keyboard and mouse.
  10. Unplug the USB keyboard and mouse and begin testing the wireless devices again.

If your keyboard has rechargeable batteries you can connect it with its charging cable and use it as a wired keyboard.

However, the mouse is a different matter. You'll have to get a wired mouse (any cheap model will do) to log in and get to the System/Bluetooth preference pane where you can try to re-connect the keyboard and mouse.

Why did you unlink the in the first place?
