Check with your carrier to see if you can add an international option to your service. For example, AT&T offers a plan that will allow you to take the phone virtually anywhere in the world for an additional $10 a day while you are traveling. You only pay the $10 if you use the phone on a given day. No charge if you don't use the phone on a given day.
