How do I get my iCloud photos back to mega bytes?

when my last iMac crashed I lost everything all was stored in the cloud. when II retrieved the photos the all came up in kilobyte size. how do I get them back to mega bytes?

How did you download the photos from iCloud?

When you download at www.icloud.com , make sure you download the unmodified original and not just drag and drop the thumbnails from the page.

Select some photos, then hover over the download button, until you are seeing the tiny "v" disclosure triangle to reveal the advanced options.
Now select to download the unmodified originals, to get the photos in the highest quality.
