iTunes error 0xE8000065

I am trying to transfer files to my new iPad 9 using iTunes but I keep getting an error(0xE8000065 - iTunes could not connect to this iPad, an unknown error occurred). However, when I connect my iPhone to my PC with the same cable iTunes works properly. Can anyone detect the problem here?

BTW I am using my iPhone charging cable to connect both devices to PC since the iPad cable is lightning to USB-c and my PC does not have any USB-c ports.

thanks

Hey Giantcat,

Next we'd make sure both devices and software are up to date: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch wirelessly

1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
4. If you see two software update options available, choose the one that you want to install.
The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 14.8 or iOS 15.
5. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do.

You might see that your device is up to date and that there's an upgrade available. For example, even if your device is up to date with the latest version of iOS 14, there might be an option to upgrade to iOS 15. You might want to upgrade iOS when you pair an accessory with iPhone.

Update iTunes on the PC: Update to the latest version of iTunes - Apple Support

On your PC

If you don't have iTunes installed on your computer, download iTunes from the Microsoft Store (Windows 10 or later). You can also download the latest version of iTunes from Apple's website.

If you downloaded iTunes from the Microsoft Store
Versions of iTunes from the Microsoft Store update automatically when new versions are released.

You can also check for updates through the Microsoft Store.

If you downloaded iTunes from Apple's website
1. Open iTunes.
2. From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, choose Help > Check for Updates.
3. Follow the prompts to install the latest version.

If Check for Updates isn't an option in the Help menu, then you downloaded iTunes from the Microsoft Store.

Make sure that you've disabled any VPNs or security software on the PC. As these may block the ability to connect the iPad to your computer. If you do disable these, make sure to restart your PC normally and try syncing again.

Let us know if that helps out, cheers.
