Stopping "double-dash to Emdash" conversion:
Replace the Double Dash with a Double Dash itself in Keyboard Preferences. Try the following...
Report back if that does the trick.

I am now having another issue, the space bar does not work in the search column for any search engine. Keyboard typing——- continuously has gone away
