Question about ESim & SIM

I sent my iPhone 6S+ in for service (taking out the SIM card) and used an iPhone XR that I also had in the meantime. I got an eSim from my carrier for the XR. I received my iPhone 6S+ back. If I put the SIM card back in, what happens to the iPhone XR (with the eSIM)? Do I end up with two working, connected phones? (I’m not tech savvy as you can probably tell).

The SIM card that you used to use in the 6S is now inactive. It will not work on any cell phone. The iPhone XR will continue to work with the eSIM. If you want to use your iPhone 6S then you will have to contact your carrier and get a new SIM card and have it activated to use on the iPhone 6S. This action will stop service on your iPhone XR eSIM.
