Woke up this morning to discover five-month old Iphone 13 was locked out. First it refused facial recognition, then would not accept my four-digit password. Then total lockout. All rather frightening; never happened me before in all of my iPhone devices. I managed to restore everything via my iMac. What could have caused this? Anything I can do to prevent it?

This is weird. At my iPhone XR sometimes it happens that I want to do the passcode to quick and then the phone starts with the second digit of my passcode. Is there any chance that this had happened to you this morning?
No. Took it off the charger. It didn't respond to Facial Recognition, the normal four-digit flashed for a few seconds; I managed to insert the correct digits, no response. Then it told me to wait 5 minutes; the screen then asked for password in a format I have never seen before. No joy either. Then it went to wait 15 minutes, no response, eventually to wait one hour. I gave up at that stage. Went to my iMac and started the erase and restore process. That worked. I am curious to know how I could prevent this from happening again. Hope this helps
