Music app (Monterey 12)will not sync photos (or anything but music) with iphone 11

I recently upgraded from iMac27 to the iMac24 M1. During the transition, I was advised to NOT use the computer to computer sync, since the M1 stores things in different bins. This was not an issue since I kept nearly all my data on separate external drives. Anyway, when it came time to sync my phone (11), I learned two things..... I could not get my playlists to transfer, so I had to rebuild them. Secondly, it took about 6 minutes for the Music app to allow "Sync Settings" to display my options for photos, files, etc. I had restarted my phone and iMac twice as well, for good measure.

Music doesn’t do any synching. That’s done in the Finder. Intro to syncing your Mac and your devices - Apple Support

There would have been no problem migrating from your old Mac. Whoever advised you not to do that does not know what they are talking about.
