Ipad Pro 2018 11" green screen on front camera when video chat or Facetiming

Front camera suddenly starting malfunctioning when using Face Time or video chat. All I see from my front camera is a lime green screen. Also when I take a video using the front camera, the camera starts as green but after a few seconds, appears to work normally. Photos with the front camera are fine - no issue so I suspect a software issue? Any insights?

Hello WonderHound,

Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities!

If you're seeing this occur with certain apps only, let's check that you're up-to-date with the latest iPadOS version. If an update is available, be sure to complete a backup before installing. For help with either of these steps, check out this resource: Update iPadOS - Apple Support

If you're up-to-date with iPadOS, try removing any bluetooth accessories or cables when you see this occur again to see if that changes anything. If you see this does help, feel free to provide an update. If that isn't helpful, Contact Apple Support directly so they can check into this with you in detail.

Have a great day!

WonderHound,

As all is up to date, you can test the issue when temporarily disabling the VPN as and iPhone that isn't "jail-broken" doesn't need anti-virus software.

You can also "Remove any case, accessory, or film that might block the camera or that places a magnet near the camera." as recommended in the article here: If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working That will help ensure the issue isn't related to an added accessory.

However, should the issue continue reporting the issue by contacting Apple Support directly to further assist as recommended by Brandon_J_321 would be best.

Best.

Thank you for the reply Brandon.

Yes my Ipad software is up to date with OS15.5 and I have already tried a hard reboot to no avail.

The fact that my front camera works for still shots and for video recording makes me think the issue is not hardware but within the software; maybe something got corrupted. I do use Norton AV and general surf the web using their VPN so I am confident I do not have a virus.

We are an Apple family. Over the years we have and in many cases still have in use 1 Ipod, 1 Ipad mini, 3 IPads, 1 Ipad Pro, 8 Iphones and 4 pair of various versions of Air pods, not to mention the Apple TV, but I do not think I will be paying upwards of $500 to fix my Ipad Pro. In general the quality has been excellent except for having to have a defective set of air pods replaced and now the Ipad acting up.

Seems like there should be a less expensive option when our gear craps out after just a couple of years. It's kind of ironic but now when I want to Facetime I put away my newer Ipad Pro and use my 10 year old Ipad mini which still works well.
