I recently purchased a new iPod Touch after learning that Apple would no longer be manufacturing it. Since I have no interest in new music and just want to listen to my old playlists, this seemed the best option. I have no desire to subscribe to Apple Music as I no longer want to add music to my collection.
I have two iMac computers in my home - one running Monterey and another running Mojave. The Mojave computer still has iTunes and my original music library. I imported that iTunes library to the Monterey computer a couple of years ago.
I don't spend a lot of time listening to music and my old iPod is no longer supported, so I wasn't noticing any problems with listening until recently when I attempted to load the new iPod Touch. It is only in the last month that I focused on the problems when I became aware that many songs were not playing through to the end, both on the computer and on the iPod. I checked online with support sites and communities and found that this is not a unique problem for me. Unfortunately I didn't find any solutions, only complaints that Apple doesn't seem to be interested in addressing the problem. I've spent a lot of time looking and trying different things with no luck.
My ultimate solution (which is working for me, so far) was to go back to the computer with Mojave and iTunes for downloading my music to the iPod Touch. I don't know how long this solution will continue to work for me, as that computer is a late-2014 model and I believe Mojave is no longer supported. My hope and plan is to use this old software to load all the music on the iPod Touch and then leave it alone. Never update and never sync.
