Why does Apple Maps keep showing me possible routes THAT TAKE LONGER? Not 5 minutes, but I'm talking about 45 to 90 minutes longer! I asked to go from A to B, not take a summer afternoon jaunt through half the USA.

Tolls? Because some people might like other options? Just use the shorter option and ignore the ones that don't meet your needs.
Longer than what? This would seem to indicate that you have routes that are not as long. If so, use those.
I hAve a screen full of alternate routes, all 30+ minutes OR MORE longer.
