Attachments not opening on Mail for Mac

When I receive an attachment in an email I am unable to open directly from Mail app on my iMac but have to save the file first & then open from the saved file. This has only started happening in last week or so but was able to open directly from Mail previously.

I am using Mac OS 11.6.6 & receive the following message when trying to 9o9prn the attachments:

I obviously don't want to have to follow this process every time I need to open an attachment &, once the file is downloaded it opens anyway so the above message isn't accurate.

I really hope someone has a fix for this & I thank you in advance.

Regards

Jason

I have been having this issue for about a week too - no attachments open from Mail on my iMac running Monterey & Mail version 14.0. It would be great to see an update on why this is happening.

This is my personal iMac which is an older 27-inch late 2014 model.

It's running Big Sur - Version 11.6.6

Mail version 14.0

I do not have the same issues with my work MacBook Pro - which is a 2020 model running Monterey Version 12.4. Everything still works. Mail version 16.0

Thanks!

Diana

Hi JWoodsy1973,

A troubleshooting step you can try is to boot into safe mode as it can can help you identify whether issues you’re experiencing are caused by software that loads as your Mac starts up and perform a basic check of your startup disk. To do so, follow How to use safe mode on your Mac. If it works in safe mode, restart your Mac and see if it works outside of safe mode.

Best regards.
