I was informed that using a USB a to lightning instead of USB c to lightning would ruin my battery life? I feel this is non sense.

The voltage is the same regardless and the device regulates the current so you are right, it makes no difference.


The USB-C standard allows for higher current, but Apple devices themselves limit the current they will allow for charging.
