I asked how to turn off automatic highlighting in the Notes app. The reply I received requested that I explain what highlighting does in the Notes app. Perhaps I used the wrong word. However, the only 'automatic' highlighting or the change of normal black colored text to 'yellow' colored text, occurs when you type a string that the iPhone identifies as requiring the string be changed from normal black text to a yellow (looks like highlighting to me) underlined HYPERLINK. While you can read the converted text on your iPhone screen, when you print that Note, using a monocrome printer, the highlighted (yellow) hyerlink string can not be seen. Well, if you hold the printed page at an angle under a high intenity light, you may be able to make out some of the characters in the string, but it is not easy to see. Furthmore, if you gave the document to someone else to read, they would tell you, "some of the words are missing." The nature of these almost invisible character strings are anything the iphone deems as "needing to be converted into a hyperlink, obviously to facilitate the strings use in another app. A telephone number gets converted into a hyperlink. If you accidently click or touch the screen close to the converted string, in the case of a phone number, you are asked if you want to make a call. Any string interpreted as an address upon touching or clicking gets redirected to your map app. An email address get redirected to your email client. A website address gets redircted to your browser app. The iphone is very generous with its interpretation of strings that it converts to hyperlinks, yellow colored (highlighted) characters that are also underlined. A simple part number could get misinterpreted as a phone number. While all this wonderful facilitation of typed characters can, in specific intances, be helpful, I did not request it and it does not help me at all. Quite the contrary! Yes, there are work-around procedures you can use, but very time consuming. All that is needed, and maybe it exists seven screens deep in the Settings app, is a simple on/off switch. I can turn on or off many frivolous options in the Settings app. To me, this automatic function should either not exist or at least have the ability to be turned off.
Highlighting ? Can you please briefly explain what "Highlighting" does on your Notes App?
It would be better if you can please re-post with a screenshot, in order to understand the phenomenon better. Images/pictures speak louder than words.
