Apple Wallet: Why can my daughter see my transactions on her phone

Hi,

I have several credit cards in my Wallet on my phone. My main card that I use everyday is an AMEX. I added the same AMEX card to my daughter's Wallet so that she could use it in case of an emergency.

I have just realized that every time I make a transaction myself - either through Wallet or even if I use the plastic card itself - she is getting a notification about my transaction. It is not a transaction she is making with her phone. It is not even a transaction I am making with Wallet. But she still gets a copy. Which means she has been seeing every transaction that I have been making for years now.

Why on earth would this be a feature? What father would want their children to know every $ that is being spent? How do I disable this. It seems like madness and I'm shocked that it could possibly be a default Apple setting.

Thanks,

Scott.

Why can my daughter see my transactions on her phone

Would you not expect this when you set up an Amex card in Wallet? Your daughter is receiving notifications because she has the Amex card in her wallet. Wallet is unconcerned that the card is yours.

Refer to what American Express says about using the card in their Apple Pay FAQ:

Getting Started tab

Can I add my Card to multiple devices?

Yes, you can add your Card on up to 10 devices. Please note that your Card must be added to each device separately.

About Apple Pay tab

What is Apple Pay?

...As an American Express Card Member, you can also get these features in Apple Pay:

Real-time notifications and details for your purchases when you use Apple Pay on iPhone® or iPad®. Notifications will be for transactions made with Apple Pay or your plastic Card.

All this suggests that notifications will be sent to any iPhone with your Amex card added to Wallet.

Hi,

Thanks for the fast responses to both who replied. I'm still surprised that the default setting is to show any transaction, even those made with a plastic card and not Apple Wallet. I think that should not be a default setting inside Wallet. And/or we should be informed if that feature is being switched on. I'm sure I'm not the only one who might land in this situation.

Thanks,

Scott.
