AirPods Pro coverage and eligibility.

I purchased a pair of apple AirPods Pro from Amazon and would like to cover them with AppleCare+. The thing is when I attempt to register the serial number it tells me the serial number is ineligible. Why is that the case, if so is there a work around to provide coverage or am I doomed? The product is fully functional, no damage, and work perfectly.
