Apple Mail 13.4

From what I can tell 13.4 does not support OAuth2. Mail suddenly stopped connecting to Gmail.

I tried creating a new profile in System Preferences/Internet Accounts and re-set up

the server settings in Mail with the same results. I found a suitable client that connects when

using OAuth2 as the authentication method.

What is the upgrade procedure to get to 14.4 which supports OAuth2 ?

I don't have Catalina easily accessible. But if you have already run the security update released in May 16th for Catalina, you can't upgrade Mail further on Catalina. You'll need to upgrade to either 11.0 Big Sur, 12.0 Monterey.

Try using IMAP or POP standard as opposed to Mail's custom Google email setup, and make sure on the web browser the gmail setting for IMAP or POP is set as you need it.

IMAP generally remains stored in Texas, whereas POP stores on your computer.

If you need other devices to have access to it, using IMAP is better.

Thanks for your reply. I guessed that the loss of OAuth for Apple's Mail client entailed an OS upgrade because it

stopped just after that May 16th patch. I wonder what Apple's logic is when they pare back functionality.

I did try IMAP but gmail is using OAuth with IMAP for authentication. I tried a few different clients and settled on

Thunderbird which works great.
