Can one set of keyboard and trackpad be used for 2021 MacBook Pro(MacOS Monterey) and Late 2012 iMac 27" (MacOS Catalina)?

Hi!

I have above Macs. Is there a way to use them with one set of keyboard and trackpad? Alternately, I will also be happy to use the iMac simply as an external display if I cannot use it as a separate Mac.

Any suggestions?

For whatever it is worth, synergy software from symless (https://symless.com/synergy) did the trick for $29.
