Unresponsive iPhone SE

I bought my daughter the SE 3rd generation last week. She was charging it a couple nights ago and the the screen went black. It's completely unresponsive - won't turn on, tried the power re-boot, plugged it into iTunes on my laptop, ... nothing. I'll exchange it for a new one if I need to but thought I'd try asking the community first. Thanks!
