Universal control regularly disconnects (12.4)

Hi all,

Universal control user here, who loves it ...if it would just work consistently.

I have both an M1 mini and a 2020 M1 13" Macbook pro, both running latest 12.4 versions

The mini is connected to an Asus 28" monitor, and has USB keyboard and mouse attached.

The macbook is also connected to the same monitor via separate wired connection to use as a second monitor for the macbook. I use the input switching on the monitor to toggle between either computer.

I use universal control on the mini, so that I can use the keyboard and mouse that are attached to the mini when I'm using the macbook.

This works fine most of the time, however I regularly (maybe every 10 minutes) have it disconnect, where the mouse and kbd from the mini aren't driving the macbook.

Usually moving the mouse around a lot and waiting for 5-10 seconds will fix things, but this is quite annoying when I'm trying to work.

Watching the displays control panel on the mini shows this behaviour clearly. Usually the control panel will show the display attached to the mini, and also the macbook and it's displays on the left - but then the macbook and it's displays will just disappear. ...wait 5-10 seconds and they will re-appear.

So has anyone seen this type of routine universal connection problem where it regularly stops working (and the connected computer disappears from the ctrl panel), only to re-appear a few seconds later?

Any ideas on ways to fix it?

thanks!
