I got a free Ipad 9th generation and I want to tranfer my SIM card from one device to another and this doesn't appear to have a SIM card slot. Is this normal and how can I have my number added to this device?

This means your free iPad is a Wifi only model. You cannot add a sim card to a Wifi only device.

If your device does no have have a sim tray, then it’s a Wi-Fi only device; which means it can’t use cellular data.
Also if you’re having difficulty finding the sim tray it should be on the side of the iPad towards the top.
In addition to the above, an iPad with cellular cannot be used for telephone calls or for SMS. Cellular is data only.
