flashing bar at bottom of screen

Hi, my laptop has this flashing bar at bottom of screen that has a vertical line that when i put my cursor on it I can scroll this line across the bottom, really weird?? Where the line starts the bar is white before the bar it is faded, but it doesn't change colour when I scroll. There are faint lines on the bar also.

Laptop also started to overheat when playing solitaire, have removed this app. The other day I also could not shut it down completely, it would automatically restart. I also could not use the keyboard. I shut the lid and left it, when i finally tried again it started up OK. Not sure if this is all linked, but I feel it is!

Thanks for the help guys!

Does not sound promising....

To trouble shoot further you can:

—SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Takes a bit longer to get to the login screen, does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc hampering smooth operation, however a reboot will put it back to normal mode.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

HI! Thank you so much for the time to reply. I have tried safe mode and carried out a disk repair, but all good there it seems. The flashing bar is still there and flashing in safe mode also. The shutting down issue happened again, sorted itself quite quickly this time, as in only a few attempts! I noticed that the bar shades are linked to whatever I have open. I also have tried to take a screenshot but the bar doesn't appear in the photo?

Truly big thank you for any other input, your time is very much appreciated!

The screen shot rules out GPU. Therefore you have a Display issue—this is hardware.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment
