That feature wasn't part of the IMAP standard. It was managed through BB's email servers.
You don’t. that’s not how IMAP works. If BB was allowing you to do that, they were not abiding by the IMAP standard.
The capability exists. Just configure as POP rather than IMAP; that’s what POP was made for. Apple follows standards, and the IMAP standard syncs email across all devices that can access the email server, so to “pick up the capability” Apple would have to violate a world-wide standard used by billions of devices.

Meanwhile, you could ask your email provider if they offer POP accounts. POP accounts do not sync across all devices so you could delete as you wish on the one device.
That “device specific option” as you call it, violates the IMAP standard.

When the Blackberry OS still existed, RIM used a special email server that did all sorts of unusual things, some good, some bad..

And, given that the legacy software was decommissioned in January, seems unlikely. I imagine there are some of the later "Blackberry" phones, the ones running Android, still out there

FWIW, after using BB for years, I got my 1st iPhone when BB effectively abandoned the bulk of it’s users.
I actually circled around BB’s previous huge (for the era) Alpharetta data center not long ago.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried POP, but when I activated the account on iPhone, the iPhone was only pulling emails from the "Sent" folder. Could not figure out how to target the Inbox on my email account. Apple support could not figure it out either.
Thanks. Actually, the standard is not impacted. As a device-specific user option, nothing in the standard is impacted. The user is Not prohibited from using IMAP in the usual manner, with full coordination. I have used this device specific option for many years with Zero impact to my email account, or server communication. Emails that are opened - communicated. Emails that are sent-communicated. It gives me a security option that Apple, as yet, doesn't.

Right. My BB Priv became inoperable when AT&T shutdown their G3 frequencies. Just surprised that Apple has not picked up on this capability.....
For the BB OS, you are correct. However, this capability also exists on the BB Priv, which is an Android device and does not run thru any BB servers.
