why do my downloaded songs on Apple Music take up 2x the storage on my new phone?

It's possible that not all the music on your old iPhone was actually downloaded. Also, check to make sure that you don't have lossless versions of the music downloaded on your new iPhone. You can see more about this here:

Just to confirm, when you see that the Apple Music is taking double the space, where are you looking? Do you subscribe to Apple Music?


Also, if you go to Settings > Music, is Sync Library enabled on each device? On this same page, what does it show for Downloaded Music for each device?


Have you tried to power off and restart each device? We know this sounds like a simple step, but sometimes a fresh restart can correct unusual behavior that pops up.
