im trying to restore my old iPad Air I gifted my little daughter about 5-6 years ago because she forgot her password and when i connected it to my MacBook Air newgen it doesn't pops up the option to restore the iPad as it should

Turn off the iPad before connecting to the computer and then while connecting, hold the button described in the instructions in If you forgot your iPad passcode - Apple Support
