Turn close captioning off

I have a iPhone 12. I know to turn off closed captions go to settings to accessibility to display the subtitles captions etc. and make sure they’re turned off. Close captioning came on without me asking it to suddenly this morning. I’ve tried everything to turn it off and cannot get it to do so. I’ve rebooted my phone and now I’m hoping maybe someone else can help me. The selection for caption in subtitles is turned off but they are still on my screen when I’m watching a program. What else can I do now.
