Macbook freezes or flickering, but when I connect to another monitor seems to be working just fine. Any idea of what the issue might be ?

Verify if Your Screen is Failing:

From what you have reported, your screen is apparently failing. So, It is time for a new screen. If you have not had this replaced, and it is covered under warranty, then it might be replaceable by Apple, free of charge --but that it Apple's call.

So, what to Try, First:

  • Record the Screen on your Mac - Apple Support. See if you still get this error. Open the created, one the file on another device, seeing if this occurs in the recording. If so, then it is an issue with the macOS. If not, then it is an issue with the screen, and you need to get this replaced.
  • Create a New User, seeing if you still get this error.
  • Connect an External Monitor.  If you do not have an HDMI port, then use this adapter: Belkin USB-C to HDMI Adapter - Apple

Perhaps this is a Faulty Device?:

How old is this Mac? Note that you have a one-year, out-of-the-box, limited-warranty with this. So, if it is covered under warranty, then see if you can get the screen replaced. Being faulty, it likely would be nothing on you. Ask Apple Support for a new screen.

  • NOTE: Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, calls are taking a bit longer to get through. And, that makes sense, because many are at home working out-of-the-house or are taking classes over-the-web, this they have more time on their hands to contact Apple Support. So, it might take a bit to get through to Apple Support. But, just stay on the line, and someone will be with you :)

Your display/display assembly/projector cable has a fault.

An external monitor comes directly from the GPU bypassing the internal Display

The resolve is take it in for a replacement/repair of the display assembly.

Thank you for the reply. The Mac is having the issue when NOT connected to the monitor. It freezes when is not connected. When I plug in the HDMI it workds fine. Maybe because I do not have enough storage on mac( I do not know if that is related). I need a macOS update but my storage capacity is low. Would a docking station increase the internal storage of mac?
