MacBook Pro freezing when connected to an external monitor

Hello,

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro. when I connect it to my dell external monitor, it freezes. The cable I’m using is hdmi to vga and it works on other laptops with the same monitor.

when I connect my MacBook to the monitor, I can see the display on my Mac but it’s frozen along with the track pad. The issue resolved when I disconnect. And It shows that my mouse was moving even when the display was frozen. I am using OS Monterey. Please help

Hi suleman115,

It sounds like you're having trouble with connecting your monitor to your Mac and we can help.

Do you have another method to connect your monitor to your Mac, or only the one cable? HDMI and VGA are not compatible, so the cable is doing a conversion to make them compatible, this might be the source of the issue if it's not displaying an acceptable format.m.

Try resetting the SMC and making sure no other accessories are connected:
