sharing AirPods max

Context: at night my partner uses my headphones while I watch tv and she does her thing on her iPhone. Later, when she sleeps and I switch use those headphones to not disturb her.

Switching has been hard. The headphones practically have to be reset every time to switch users/phones. Similarly, if I want to connect the headphone to the tv, reset and attempt pair. It may be easy to switch between my devices, but not so to the next sphere of devices.

Question is: Is there an easy way to switch? If so, how?
