For a time lapse project, I want to import images (jpg) into FCP, they are color managed and have sRGB or AdobeRGB color profiles embedded.
What happens to the color of those images if imported into FCP, is there a color conversion to the FCP Projects Rec709 or Rec2020 color space?
Or does the sRGB or AdobeRGB profile just get thrown out? In this case, how do I import images and have them look similar to before?

I use Lightroom and export using the sRGB option to the PNG file format. There are other color and format options that I have not tried.
After importing into FCP select the file and open the Inspector. Clickt the "i" (information) icon at the top to the left of the file name. At the bottom of the Inspector change the Metadata View from Basic to General (bottom left corner). In the middle of the panel is the files Color Profile information.
I am assuming that you used something like Photoshop or Lightroom to color correct the photos and then exported the jpg files. I have done this many time and not noticed any change in the color of the images when imported into FCP or in the exported as a movie. You may want to import a few images to verify that you are happy with the results before dumping all the images into FCP.
One thing to keep in mind is that you will have no control over what the end user views the movie on. Depending on how the end user has their device set, i.e. brightness, night shift, etc, the colors that the viewer sees my be slightly different than what you see on your screen.
Thanks Larrie! That sounds good. Yes, I'm talking about images out of Photoshop. When you say you have done this many times, do you remember if the imported images were sRGB or some other color space?
