Can't save animated gifs, they turn into static .webp files.

6-10-22

I was trying to load a .gif file from the web and it would only download as a '.webp' file. With no animation. So I found this thread:

Animated gifs becoming static webp inages - Apple Community

Non of the suggestions worked for me, but Dialabrain said, "My guess is you are downloading the webp file from a site rather than the gif. Nothing has changed."

So after reading Dialabrain's response, I tried this:

R-click on the animated gif and click "Copy Image Address", then

paste the address into the address bar, this took me directly to the image... then

R-click and "Save Image As", and voila! It successfully saves the '.gif' file.

Replies were no longer allowed on the original thread, so I'm posting this in case it's helpful for someone else.

Thanks Dialabrain, you led me down the correct path!
