I cannot create a new gmail email account because i can't authenticate.

I changed my gmail password and it is working on my iPhone but not on my two macs. I am prompted to open the browser to authenticate but it does not go to an authentication site. I deleted the account from one mac but it won't let me create a new one without authentication. i can access the gmail via the web and from my iPhone so i know the password is up to date.
