Sidecar keeps freezing on iPad

I am on macOS Monterey 12.4 (M1 MacBook Air) and I use Sidecar with my 2018 iPad Pro WiFi on iPadOS 15.5. Ever since Universal Control was introduced, Sidecar has been really unstable. After connecting to my iPad using my Mac, the sidecar display freezes within 20 seconds of use. The iPad does not freeze, it's only the sidecar app that freezes.

I have tried rebooting both my devices. Disconnecting and reconnecting my iPad and other such generic attempts to troubleshoot. This is apparently a big problem for a lot of users and Sidecar is simply unusable. Please fix this ASAP.

I tried every single suggested solution. Nothing worked. I even reinstalled the Mac OS completely. No difference whatsoever.

Now I have had a full week of zero lockups. The solution for me was to change a setting on my ipad, not the Mac. I went into the ipad settings and disabled all App Activities in the background. It immediately fixed the problem. When i turn background activities back on the lockups come back after a very short time.

App Activities in the background are restricted for Apple products and scheduled a bit randomly, and this may explain why the lockups themselves are quite random and can sometimes stop for a few minutes and then come back with a vengeance.

Just did this with a 13" M2 MBP and a M2 11" iPad Pro and now it seems to work correctly. Not sure what's going on within the OS to do this, but that's pretty wonky. I too ran into the 20 second freeze until I did the above.

I followed the steps described earlier about turning off things on the MBP then rebooting both the MBP and iPad Pro and so far, fingers crossed, it continues to work. I think the commenter said the biggest part was disable these features and then reboot both devices.

I already came to a conclusion that having too many Apple devices causes problems. How in this case AppleTV and mac and iPad are connected? I read that when you get rid of some devices, the others work better. That's funny.

So, turning off AppleTV is the solution, right? So what about automations, when AppleTV is the HomeHub? Or what about the situation, that you want to watch something? You need to plug AppleTV and wait until it boots to watch anything? Clever, seems like XXI's century solution :).

This is pathetic on Apple’s part, as this thread is far too old for there to be no resolution. One of the primary reasons I bought the new 15” MacBook Air was to use the sidecar feature, but nope; Can’t use it because of this issue. I find this inexcusable and I’m tired of the unjustified good will Apple gets for making things “just work.” They don’t. I’m so mad.

This is absolutely inexcusable. I've wasted too much time with sideCar.

Not a great precursor to connecting the $3500 Vision pro to the MacBooks, is it?

With mac sales down 30-40 percent, stuff like this matters!!

i don't give one rat's behind about any new features offered on macOS or ipad os until stuff like this is resolved. Period.

Dosen't anyone notice the full-size keyboard doesn't show up when trying to search in one of the files opened together using stage manager in the files app. The iPads in Apple Stores also exhibit this bug.

If you want to be productive and multitasking, this is a must.

They don't seem to care at all and are unable to deliver the advertised functionality.
