Can't hang up iphone calls.

It's now 06/14/2022... There are at least two other threads similar to this, and the one I found was dated 2020 with replies into 2021. I have an iphone 7+. Most of the other phones were much newer than mine, but we all had (have) the same sort of problem. The problem is difficult to define because it happens in so many different ways. It is hard to duplicate because it happens on real calls where you need to get your business done. I was finally able to duplicate the problem by calling my old landline which was retired years ago and is still a dead line. If you call it, no one answers and finally a recorded voice comes on and tells you the phone number is no longer working.... and finally, it will hang up. That's what you would expect.

To duplicate the problem, I called the dead line and pressed the home button to get out of the phone app. I then pressed the phone app button to get back in. When I did, the phone came up with the keypad screen with a green phone icon at the bottom. No red hang-up button. I tried pressing the upperleft edge of the screen and the screen was replaced with the one having the red hang-up button. Pressing that button ended the call. Pressing that upper-left corner was the totally non-intuitive solution offered in another help stream. So, I tried the same trick several times to see if I could duplicate the results. Sometimes I got similar results, sometimes not. At one point my iphone screen turned black and nothing I did changed it. I left it alone for a few seconds and it turned to the keypad green icon screen. It then slowly flipped back and forth between the two states with me being unable to do anything.

Perhaps the "press the upperleft corner of the iphone"-fix will get me back to the point where I can either end calls or press the speaker phone button. I won't know until the intermittent problem occurs again. Aah, for the days when a phone was just a phone. (I must be getting old.)
