I put in the sim card from my 6Plus into my new to me iPhone 12. Some screens I accessed. Now I'm being told that I need to reset_(wipe) me iPhone 12 in order to trans data from iPhone 6 Plus. Is this correct? Plus

iPhone does not store anything in the SIM card, if that’d what you are assuming here.

It can import contacts from the SIM that another phone might use, but iPhone won’t store data in the SIM.

If you are restoring a backup, that’s entirely independent of the SIM card, and will reset and reload the contents of the iPhone.
