Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about needing a cable. This depends on the model and ports.


The MacBook Air (M1, 2020) - Technical Specifications has Thunderbolt ports.


If you have this 13-inch 2019 pro, then it also has thunderbolt ports: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) - Technical Specifications


You can try a Thunderbolt cable and the steps here: Transfer files between two Mac computers using target disk mode - Apple Support
