apple m1 mobile pairing

I have an ipad pro and an iphone XR (iOS 15.5)

Neither of them will pair with my MacMini (M1 running Monterey)

Both phone and tablet produce a "code" when I connect them from the mac, I tap the OK button on the mobile, and it shows connected briefly, and then disconnects. Same pattern if I do this from the phone.

And rebooted all devices, and toggled bluetooth off/on all devices and yes both phone and tablet have a working bluetooth keyboard attached, so the tablet and phone have perfectly working bluetooth as far I can tell. It shows connected for a moment, than says nope. Any clues?

An iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) or an iPad except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. See the following for more information: Bluetooth: Why can't I pair my iPhone or … - Apple Community

If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity or AirDrop, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. Note the "(no pairing needed)"

Excellent

Instructions aren't great. It does allow mirroring several devices simultaneously (no pairing needed), once you figure out how it works.

You may want to see if they have any support that you can contact. Or check all of the reviews to see if any include any tips.

As already explained, iPhones and iPads do not pair via Bluetooth like other devices, and that is not needed.

What software are you using for those meetings?

Zoom?

It does allow you to share your iPad or iPhone screen, without much fuss. No need to use Vysor for that, it is a feature of Zoom already. Other videoconferencing tools may have similar features as well.

So, I'm sure there are better ways to do this, but I want to share my iPad screen during a demo. I'm using Vysor.

Vysor allows you to also control pointer input (location and do gestures) if you pair the phone with your laptop. I have a new mac-mini, (I also have an old macbook, so I could try if the macbook does pair with the phone.) But other people using Vysor have reported that they are able to use Vysor to not jsut mirror the phone screen, but also to control the phone from their mac.

And that's the reason I'm wanting to pair the phone or the iPad to my mac. So I'm not trying to tether for network access or for file transfer. I guess after reading Universal Control: use a single keyboard and mouse between your Mac and iPad – Apple Support (UK)

that both devices may need to be using the same Apple account to allow the pairing to work for Universal control. It's bizarre because the OS does pop a bluetooth prompts me to accept a code, so I am guessing the peers have not yet decided at that point if they can pair fully. A lack of error messages make it all a little weird. I want to show my ipad in a meeting without holding it up to the webcam. I'm clearly missing something in the normal use.
