PIN vs password

My M1 14in macbook pro keeps asking me for a PIN when I try to get into my laptop. I never made a PIN and I don't know what it is or where to make one or change it. I've been using my touch ID but sometimes it won't let me in without a PIN so I have to shut down my laptop all the time and restart it.

Please help me find my PIN or where to make one.

Thank you.

In order to set up Touch ID, you had to enter a Password first. You may not remember it, but you had to set one to start. It could be a passcode or password.

If you don't remember your password see this --> https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202860
