Trying to watch Apple TV

Is it possible that my TV is too old to watch Apple TV shows?

I have an older Vizio tv, the widgets it uses no longer work so I have a Roku device. When I try to watch Slow horses or any new show the first episode plays but than I get an error that it can’t play on my device. I tried downloading to my MacBook and than using airplay but I got another error.

I can still play live events, like when they have baseball.

is this a common problem? Just a glitch? Or is it my TV?

Hi there Neacneac |8104X,

Thank you for your post to Apple Support Communities.

We understand you're having problems with the Apple TV app and using AirPlay. In regard to age, we recommend checking with the manufacturers to make sure everything is up-to-date: Contact a third-party vendor

This is also a great article to check through: If you can't watch or stream movies and TV shows in the Apple TV app

We also recommend checking your macOS software is up-to-date as well:

Update macOS on Mac

Use AirPlay to stream what’s on your Mac to an HDTV

We hope that helps. If you have additional questions, contact Apple Support here: Contact Apple Support

Take care.
