Connect Samsung phone to Macbook pro over USB

Hi, Team,

I have been using a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 for years, and connecting it almost seamlessly by USB to my MacBook Pro (Late 2013) to transfer photos and music back and forth. I have used both Android File Transfer and a little known software called OpenMTP - highly recommended, btw.

Yesterday, I upgraded my phone to a Samsung A53 5G, and transferred all the settings and files across from the old phone to the new phone with no issues using the Samsung proprietary Smart Switch app on the MacBook.

However, now I want to transfer some music into the phone storage, and there seems to be no connection available, like there was with the old phone.

Samsung support are insisting that it is an issue with the MacBook, I am not so certain, but if anyone knows of any known issue in connecting a Samsung A53 to a (n admittedly Vintage) MacBook Pro, I would be very grateful to learn it!

Thanks in advance,

Ed

That's exactly what I thought, and I mentioned it to the Samsung Support people at the customer care centre. While there, she plugged my phone into her laptop, and it connected fine, then I plugged it into my wife's laptop when I got home, and it connected fine.

The laptop is a late 2013 MBP 15", which in an attempt to connect, I have upgraded to Big Sur, 11.6.7, and now the phone connects.

All sorted.

Therefore, a word of warning, there is an age limit to OSX versions to connect successfully with Android versions.

Thanks for your help...

Samsung is responsible for making their product work with Apple products; not the other way around. If Samsung has "no connection available", that's on Samsung's plate.

That being said, how vintage is vintage? It is possible that new Samsung models work on the latest Apple OS but not on older models.

What is your MBP's OS version ... 10.11? You may need to upgrade your OS. If it's too "vintage:" to go to an OS that works you need a new, or newer, Mac.
