Error message telling me to update the software for my iPhone.

My iPhone 12 Plus is up to date, but when I plug it into my Mac using Catalina, I get a message to update my software. When I click Install, my computer goes into an endless cycle and nothing happens. How can I get rid of this error message?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

Check your network, see -> Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
