Passcodes Requested at Genius Bar?

I've always had the experience of Apple taking security seriously. I was out of town and needed a repair. My iPhone was backed up. Unfortunately, my iPhone was broken during the repair so Apple replaced it. All of my data was recently backed up to iCloud. I did not have internet access where I was staying so requested to have my new phone set up (data uploaded from iCloud and paired with my Apple Watch) in the store. The Genius Bar employee said that would be no problem, she just needed my passcodes for my watch and phone. Ugh. I was caught off guard and regrettably provided them. Has anyone else been asked for their personal details which compromise all of their accounts? I don't know if this was legitimate or nefarious .

They asked for your AppleID password? If this was an Apple retail Store, that would be a violation of Apple policy, as stated right on their web site -> Security and your Apple ID - Apple Support

Never provide your password, security questions, verification codes, recovery key, or any other account security details to anyone else. Apple will never ask you for this information.

If Apple Support needs to verify your identity, we might ask you to generate a temporary Support PIN. We'll only ask for this information over the phone after you contact Apple Support for help.”

If it was just your device screen lock passcode I don’t know of any formal Apple policy on asking for that to open the device and access settings. The device passcode does not give anyone your AppleID password for login.

Was this an Apple Store or other provider?
