Has this AST2 server ever worked for OS based tests before, or is this a new setup?

The MRI and other EFI based tests are pulled directly from Apple servers which is why the UUT (Unit Under Test) can be anywhere in the world with an Internet connection.

The OS based tests are pulled from your local AST2 diagnostic server. Both the AST2 server and the UUT must be on the same subnet.

When you are getting this network boot issue? Is it just first booting into diagnostic mode? Or does this occur after successfully booting into diagnostic mode and selecting an OS based test where the UUT reboots and encounters an issue?

Make sure the OS on your AST2 server is fully patched and you have installed the most recent OS based test modules for the exact model of the UUT. Sometimes it is necessary to turn off & on the sharing of the tests in the Server app on the AST2 server. Othertimes, you may need to reinstall an existing test module, but make sure to temporarily switch the Server app to Off before installing the test modules on the server. After installing the test module make sure to turn the Server app back On again. Sometimes it is necessary to reboot the AST2 server making sure the Gateway Manager is also connecting to Apple.

Does the OS on your AST2 server meet the current minimum requirements? Check out articles OP476 and OP1773 for the latest AST2 modules as well as a list of known issues.

It is also possible you may have a local network, ISP, or local Internet issue causing a problem as well. These diagnostics and Internet Recovery Mode are all very picky and fragile. Can the UUT boot into Internet Recovery Mode using Command + Option + R (Intel Macs only)? If not, then it may signal a local problem. Firewalls and local network settings and ISP settings can all affect this process with only some of them under your control.

The OS based AST2 issues are extremely difficult and frustrating to figure out since Apple is usually of no help. You can try contact CSS support through your GSX service portal for assistance.
