Add existing watermark to photos

I have a pre-made watermark that is required on certain photos. Is there a way I can add this to my photos? This watermark is saved in my files.

Everything I have found talks about creating your own watermark and I already do this but this situation requires me to use a watermark created by someone else.

If you are familiar with iMovie you can use the Picture in Picture and/or Cutaway opacity adjustment features of iMovie to overlay a watermark.

With the Cutaway overlay feature you can use the opacity adjustment slider to get an overlaid transparent watermark like this:

Or you can use Picture in Picture to resize and position it as as a fully opaque logo like this:

Or with Picture in Picture you can partially engage the dissolve option to position the logo and make it

transparent like this:

After the procedures are done in iMovie you export them as images or take screen shots of the preview screen.

Ralf, if I understand the attached YouTube video correctly, the Shortcut app is using Quick Actions installed by Pixelmator to create the overlay. I have Pixelmator no longer installed, and the overlay action is missing. Otherwise it would be a great method. Here is a screenshot from the video you linked: Are you having Pixelmator Pro installed?

We can however use Preview to add a watermark as an overlay to an existing image.

That is very good to know, Ralf, thank you. I have to try again. When I tried, I could only see "Mask Image" as an overlay action, nothing else.

It is strange - when I set the language for the Shortcuts.app to English, the overlay action is available. Then I can see "Overlay Image" and "Overlay Text", not just "Mask Image".
