Picking up a preorder at the apple store

Hi there,

I just had a question I was hoping someone could help answer.

I'm planning on getting the M2 MacBook Air when preorders are available, so I decided to "test out" what it would be like with the M2 MacBook pro as you can preorder it now (not actually buy it but get to understand the process of preordering.)

I was planning to pick up the MBA at the apple store however with the MBP apparently you cannot pick them up at the apple store. I was just wondering if that's because all the ones reserved at the apple store were sold out or you just cannot collect them at the Apple Store until the products have been released?

TL:DR Can you pick up pre-ordered items at the apple store or do you have to wait until they are actually released?

We are all other users here and do not have access to information other than what Apple has released publicly.

When you actually order an item, you will get choices for pickup if they are available. Sometimes, pickup is not available for various reasons - Covid could be one.
