Mac Air M1 OS 12.4 maintenance
Is it necessary to leave the Mac on sleep mode overnight so it can do whatever maintenance that's required by it? Normally I shut it down at the end of the day.

Hi smr.kol,
You don't need to leave your Mac asleep at the end of the day. You can safely shut it down.
That said, you should periodically check System Preferences -> Software Update (maybe once a week), and install all available updates at the end of the day.

That's not required.
Shutting down a Mac is never required though. Shut it down if you know you won't be using it for a long time (perhaps a week or more).
Do you have an iPhone? How often do you shut it down? Same answer applies.
