Third party app headphone switching

Hi, I'm running Ableton Live and my M1 Max running 12.4 will not automatically switch between headphones and speakers in this app. Ableton have said this is a feature Apple stopped. To alleviate this I use an app called Sonarworks as the main audio output on the machine, but this is changed back to the MacBook audio out when I close the lid and enter the lock screen. Any suggestions on what's going on or the best course of action moving forward?

Uninstall any and all third party Antivirus, Cleaners, Optimizers, VPN, speeder uppers....

It is not completely clear to me what you are trying to do?

Do you want your mac to switch automatically the sound output to your headphones when you open Ableton? and also when you switch to it from another application? Do you want to switch to speakers when you go out?

Please clarify.

I don't know of any setting for that, unless the application itself supports it (for example, in Zoom you can select a sound output that is different from the system setting).

Of course, the sound output can be right there on the menu bar for quick access.

Or, if needed, we may be able to concoct a little script that switches to Ableton and changes the output device at the same time.
